Peterson AFB
Peterson Air Force Base, home of the 21st Space Wing, the Air Force's only organization responsible for worldwide missile warning and space control. The men and women of the 21st Space Wing, Team 21, work throughout the Colorado Springs area in what is known as the Peterson Complex--Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base and Cheyenne Mountain Air Station--as well as 26 locations in 4 countries around the globe.

In addition to their operational missions, Team 21 serves as host unit of the Peterson Complex for four major military headquarters--North American Aerospace Defense Command, U.S. Northern Command, Air Force Space Command and Army Strategic Command--as well as the 302nd Airlift Wing (Reserve) and many tenant units from other major commands.

History

Edward J. Peterson was born in 1917, in Englewood, Colo., and attended public schools there. He graduated from Denver University with a Master of Arts degree.

Upon completion of flying training in October 1941, he was commis­sioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Force. He was promoted to first lieutenant in February 1942, and was assigned as the operations officer of the 14th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron, Colorado Springs Army Air Base, Colo., in July 1942.

Airman and Family Readiness Center

The Airman and Family Readiness Center's mission is to support readiness by linking indviduals and families with the effective resources to meet their professional and personal needs. The AFRC offers 60 various services under the following nine core program areas: Information and Referral, Personal and Family Readiness, Transition Assistance, Relocation Assistance, Personal Financial Management, Air Force Aid Society, Volunteer, Spouse Employment Program and the Family Life Education. All services are available to military ID cardholders. The 821st Air Base Group is located at Thule Air Base in northern Greenland and at over 76 degrees north is the northernmost base in the U.S. Department of Defense. 821st ABG is a geographically separated unit of the 21st SW and makes vital contributions to the critical missions of space warning, space surveillance, and satellite command and control.
